On the 11th of April 2015 we are all called in to cast our opinion whether Spring Hunting should be kept or abolished. At this current point in time we have heard many people casting their opinion about what should be done and how we should vote. We have seen the Prime Minister at his usual game of vote hunting, we have seen Dr. Simon Busuttil being correct, ethical and honest as he always is. We also seen Archbishop Cremona voicing his opinion.
I believe that it was important that the country’s leaders voiced their position so that now the general public can be left in peace to decide for themselves. I’ve said it before and I continue to say it today, this is not a political issue so the politicians should not dictate on it. I’m more interested to see what SHout, The Coalition to Abolish Spring Hunting, FKNK and anyone else directly involved in this has to say. I hope that come the 11th of April we will see a good turnout so that this democratic process can be utilized to the best of its abilities.
It’s very important to remember that on the same day, the 11th of April 2015, half of Malta & Gozo are being asked to vote in the Local Council Elections. It seems to be that the Labour party is doing all they can to hide the fact that we have these elections. This undemocratic process started early last year when the prime minister hinted that he might cancel the Local Council elections altogether. It was thanks to Dr. Busuttil and the Nationalist Party that these elections are going to be held. If it was up to Muscat and his minions, we wouldn’t have these elections. That would have meant that in some instances we would have had mayors for 7 years before they would be asked to stand another election.
This is going to be Joseph Muscat’s last test before the next General Election. Let’s keep in mind that he did manage to cancel the 2017 local council election so with his shenanigans Muscat managed to avoid facing the electorate in 2017.
This Local Council election is a very important election for the PN. It will give the party the opportunity to strengthen some of its majorities whilst winning new ones. In order for the PN to stand a chance of a good result, we need to ensure that all those being asked to cast their opinion does go out and vote. Most importantly it’s good to remember that the people that we are voting to be in our local council are going to run our localities for the next four years. I am sure that everyone would like the opportunity to choose the best people to run his/her locality thus this can only be achieved if you go out and cast your vote.
In a Local Council election, even more when compared to a General Election, it’s very important to vote for ALL the candidates of the party you like to have the majority in your council. There were instances in the past that because some votes weren’t inherited to the next preference, the party lost enough votes for it to lose a majority in that locality. If that was to happen it can result in a locality being ran by local councilors that their party did not have the most 1st preference votes.
My last thought for today is this, mark the 11th of April on your calendars. Go out there and cast your votes. Both for the referendum and also to elect those most worthy to lead your locality. Make sure that your voice is heard, speak with your votes.
