Muscat’s Perception

Perception! If we have learned one thing from this government is that Joseph Muscat and his henchmen are truly masters of the art of perception. All of a sudden we’re living in a country in which people expect nothing less than mediocre from their government, and to make it worse, the government manages to pain the picture as a serene one.

Sometimes I like to sit on a bench and observe the world goes by. While doing this I start wondering about where we are today, and where we want to see our country in the future. I urge you to find Joseph Muscat’s 2013 election campaign videos of his mass meetings. Focus on the parts where he starts speaking on what he believes in and what he wants to see in Malta and then think about it. I have to be honest, such beautiful words are truly inspiring. We have to admit, they were beautifully choreographed, excellently delivered to the beat of crowd and surely he managed to inspire the most doubtful of voters that Joseph Muscat was the chosen one. The one that had to drive Malta to new heights, to new levels of professionalism.

Seeing what Joseph Muscat used to say and comparing it to what’s happening today around us is a different story whatsoever. Thankfully we have an Opposition that is led by the brilliant Dr. Simon Busuttil that is constantly on the government’s back to make sure that Malta’s coffers aren’t completely drained and our reputation remains slightly dignified.

The Opposition managed to make a huge difference over the last two years. It was PN’s insistence and the unwavering effort to unleash the truth that forced the dismissal of Manuel Mallia. It was thanks to the PN’s conviction that the Labour government changed (3 times) its proposal for the selling of our passport. It was thanks to the PN’s insistence that the government had to bow its head and reduce the price for petrol and diesel. The list is endless, in a nutshell, even though with a 9 (2 of them illegitimate) seat deficit in parliament, the PN managed to make a huge difference over the last 2 years.

Our current government is being caught out in one huge scandal after another. Just to mention a few; meritocracy has been spat at the day PL were elected, Mizzi’s wife’s scandalous salary, the proposed cancellation of the local council elections, Manuel Mallia’s wild west escapade, the gas powered power station huge failure, continuous deals with the Chinese and the cherry on the cake the 4.2 Million Euros (that’s €4,200,000!) scandalous deal Café Premier.

When I see such scandals, one after another, and then I see Muscat’s reaction that nothing is a big deal, a small part of me dies. I can’t stomach that Malta has become a country that everything goes, or like my grandfather used to say: Tax-xejn mhu xejn!

The time has now come for the Labour party to start paying for their scandals. We can’t continue living in a state in which whatever Labour does is excused. Their excuse that “PN did worse” without saying what needs to stop. The people voted, the people screamed for change. Please Joseph Muscat do the decent thing and give them the change they voted you for.

On Saturday 11th April 2015 half of Malta have an opportunity to give Joseph Muscat his first tremor of the people’s defiance of his management. Half of Malta will be voting in the Local Council Elections. The PN has fielded a very strong team and I’m sure that these men and women are ready to uphold PN’s ethos that mediocrity is not ok. It’s time that waves start increasing and the campaign of honesty and of higher standards start gaining momentum. The 11th April elections are the first step!
