L-eks Champion Olimpiku tal-Atletika Lord Sebastien Coe (ritratt) kien elett bħala President tal-Federazzjoni Internazzjonali tal-Atletika (IAAF).

Il-214-il membri tal-Federazzjoni xeħtu l-vot tagħhom f’Beijing biex iddeċiedew min għandu jmexxi l-isport, li bħalissa jinsab għaddej minn taqlib kbir wara serje ta’ allegazzjonijiet ta’ doping.

Coe, li kien Chairman tal-Kumitat Organizzattiv tal-Olimpjadi ta’ Londra fl-2012, ħa post Lamine Diack tas-Senegal, li ta’ 82 sena rtira mill-kariga wara 16-il sena fit-tmexxija.

Coe kiseb 115-il vot kontra d-92 li kiseb l-isfidant tiegħu, l-eks Champion tal-Pole Vault Sergey Bubka.

L-elezzjoni saret tlett ijiem biss qabel jibdew il-Kampjonati tad-dinja tal-Atletika f’Beijing, bl-ewwel terminu ta’ Coe fil-kariga se jkun ta’ erba’ snin.
