We have failed you

Dear beautiful young angel,

I’m sorry for we have failed you. We, humanity, were too busy, too proud, too lost in our greed to acknowledge the fact that you and so many other innocent souls are perishing in the very sea that we relax in.

Humanity has failed you because we didn’t do enough to help you. We didn’t do enough to ensure that your very basic needs are catered for. We all know that our tiny island can’t accommodate everyone, however we acknowledge the fact that saving human lives is more important than anything else.

How can we go to bed and sleep soundly whilst knowing that children are drowning not so far from us? How can we look into our children’s eyes and tell them that we love them, whilst we are not doing enough to save other children from this cruel faith?

In this beautiful country we are blessed with over 200 days of sunshine thus most of us are naturally enamoured with the beautiful sea we have. Having said that, moving forward how can we enjoy swimming in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea? How can we let go of our lives stress in the sea when we all know that this same sea is the tomb for thousands of souls we have so profoundly failed?

We have now arrived at a situation where we, Europeans need to take drastic action to save as many lives as possible. At the moment we have thousands of Syrians that are crossing in to Europe, mainly through Kos in Greece and also through to Turkey. Apart from that we still have the tragedy that takes place almost daily of refugees trying to cross through the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.

I urge all world leaders to unite quickly and see how we can help our fellow human beings. If we fail to help save lives than we are not fit to call ourselves humans.

Politicians around the world must look beyond the flag that they represent, beyond the organization they form part of, forget that they come from a specific country or continent and remember that before we belong to a country, before we belong to a specific organisation, we belong to one race HUMANS. In order for anyone to call himself human he needs to find a shred of humanity within himself and ensure that we do our very, very best to save lives.
