Aħbar ħażina għall-baleni fil-Baħar tal-Ġappun

epa07248597 (FILE) - A handout photo made available by Greenpeace shows the Yushin Maru catcher ship of the Japanese whaling fleet injuring a whale with its first harpoon attempt, and taking a further three harpoon shots before finally killing the badly injured fleeing whale in the Southern Ocean, 07 January 2006 (reissued 26 December 2018). According to media report on 26 December 2018, the government of Japan announced that it will withdraw from the International Whaling Commission (IWC), effective 30 June 2019, and soon after will resume commercial whaling within its territorial waters and exclusive economic zone. The move comes amid resistance to Japan's efforts to advocate commercial whaling of plentiful whale species from anti-whaling countries in the IWC. Il-Ġappun ħareġ mill-Kummissjoni Internazzjonli għall-ħarsien tal-Baleni l-IWC sabiex ikun jista jerġa jibda’ l-kaċċa għall-baleni bi skopijiet kummerċjali.

Sa issa l-Ġappun kien ingħata l-permess li jikkaċċa ftit mijiet ta’ baleni għal skopijiet ta’ riċerka. Il-biċċa l-kbira ta’ dawn il-baleni kienu tar-razza Minke. Dawn il-baleni jinsabu fl-Antartiku fejn il-Ġappun kien qed iwettaq ir-riċerka.

Iżda issa dan il-pajjiż għadu kemm ħabbar li se jkun qed joħrog minn din il-kummissjoni. Dan ifisser li l-Ġappun issa ma jkollu xejn xi jżommu milli jikkaċċa lil dawn il=-baleni ingħajr ebda restrizzjonijiet jew limiti fl-ibħra territorjali tiegħu.

Din hi aħbar ħażina ħafna hekk kif ir-razza ta baleni Minke li jinsabu fil-baħar tal-ġappun hija fil-periklu ta’ estinzjoni…dan hekk kif hu maħsub li fadal biss madwar mitt baleni ta’ din ir-razza. Din l-ispeċi diġa kienet f’xifer l-estinzjoni fis-sekli 19 u 20 wara kaċċa bla rażan mill-Ġappuniżi u r-Russi.
