Hermann Schiavone suspends himself from PN, Adrian Delia accepts

The Leader of Partit Nazzjonalista Adrian Delia accepted MP Hermann Schiavone’s suspension from the PN Parliamentary Group.

In a letter that he wrote to party leader Adrian Delia, Schiavone offered his suspension and requested that he is investigated for this behaviour. This amid the recent controversy about a meeting he and MP Kristy Debono had with entrepreneur Yorgen Fenech.

The below is what Schiavone wrote in his letter, in which he explained:

  1. I had the intention to organise a not-for-profit political conference, so I looked for a sponsored hall for the activity.
  2. The conference was still at a planning stage and as always logistical matters were not discussed with yourself.
  3. I originally had an appointment with another director of Tumas Group, but was referred to Yourgen Feench at the last minute.
  4. Kristy Debono was not aware of the changes until the last moments so the criticism against her is unjust.
  5. During the meeting with Fenech, we only discussed the conference.
  6. The meeting was held in broad daylight and not kept secret.

Despite knowing that there was wrongdoing on my part, I feel that I should shoulder responsibility for my lack of attention and good judgement. I feel that this case is disrupting you and our Party from fighting corruption serenely and effectively.

I am in politics to serve, as I have always done with utmost honesty and loyalty towards every Party leader and the Party itself. I have always believed that no individual is greater than the Party, and also believe that we should not only be doing whats right, but should also be seen to be doing it.

I am therefore suspending myself from the PN parliamentary group, effective immediately and also asking the Party to appoint a board to investigate my behaviour.

Schiavone believes that the party is bigger than each and every individual. Therefore he voluntarily decided to suspend himself from the PN Parliamentary Group with immediate effect, and asked to be investigated for his behaviour.

In the meantime, even though I won’t form part of the PN parliamentary group, I would like to assure you that I would anyway follow the instructions of the Party’s whip.

The leader of Partit Nazzjonalista Dr Adrian Delia accepted his suspension.
