Serious doubts on Konrad Mizzi’s deal with Corinthia Group

Minister Konrad Mizzi was constrained to confirm that negotiations on the Corinthia deal are ongoing — negotiations, which as revealed by Il-Mument two weeks ago, are happening behind everyones backs.

It seems like the Corinthia group have agreed with most of the new parameters as set by the Socialist Government. Notwithstanding this, everything now depends on the valuation of the land at St Georges Bay. The valuation of land involves a process but nobody knows how this is happening and when the process will be ready. This was confirmed by the Minister of Tourism Konrad Mizzi himself in a comment he gave to the Malta Independent.

This further confirms what had already been published by Il-Mument that negotiations between Minister Konrad Mizzi and the Corinthia Group were happening secretly, so nobody would interfere with this deal.

Minister Konrad Mizzi will grant public land to the Corinthia Group to build luxury apartments instead of a five star hotel, possibly generating in excess of one billion Euros.

After pressure from the Opposition, the Government had to change the original agreement with the Corinthia Group. The opposition had strongly objected to this agreement and described the agreement as obscene. Local Councils, unions and environmental organisations were also strongly critical of the agreement and condemned Konrad Mizzi’s manoevres.

Asked by The Malta Independent about the progress of these negotiations, Minister Mizzi had to admit that Government met with the Corinthia Group to discuss new parameters, although he didn’t say what the deal included and by when it would be done.
