PANAMA PAPERS: Muscat goes back on his word. Will not make Schembri resign

The Prime Minister will not make his Chief of Staff resign, even though Magistrate Doreen Clarke has confirmed that there should be a criminal investigation against Keith Schembri. This investigation is being led by Magistrate Charmaine Galea.

This morning, following a meeting at the General Workers Union offices, the Prime Minister made it clear that he will not fire Keith Schembri. On the contrary, he went out of his way to defend him despite him being investigated.

This even though in 2017, in the midst of the Panama Papers scandal, the Prime Minister clearly gave his word that if the courts decide to start a criminal investigation against Keith Schembri, “he would need to resign”.
