“Frans Timmermans and the European Socialists want to harmonise tax regulation, threatening investment in Malta” – Adrian Delia

Voting for the Socialist Party in the European Parliament elections will result in Timmermans harmonizing tax regulation across Europe.

During a political activity in Għargħur, the Leader of the Opposition Adrian Delia said “Frans Timmermans and the European Socialists want to take away the right of member states to regulate taxes separately, threatening investment. Voting for candidates of the Socialist Party in Malta in the European Parliament elections is also voting for Frans Timmermans and his single tax proposal.”

Dr Delia said that Frans Timmermans, who is a friend of Joseph Muscat in the European Socialist Party is the S&D candidate for President of the European Commission

This would mean that a single tax would apply throughout Europe and Malta would lose the right to regulate its own tax system, and subsequently lose its advantage negotiated by a PN administration prior to Malta’s accession to the EU. This advantage attracts economic sectors such as gaming and financial services which today are pillars of our economy.

The Leader of the Opposition Adrian Delia also said that access to the European Union led to many opportunities for locals and youths, now with access to a 500-million strong market. However the Socialist Government favours cheap labour, the middle class is struggling to make ends meet and the gender pay gap results in women being paid less than men for the same work.

He said that the PN wants everyone to succeed, everyone to get a good education and a decent wage. However, Malta has the second highest rate of early school leavers, resulting in a higher risk of cheap labour. He then thanked all labourers and tradesman for their service to the community.

Adrian Delia said that the PN, in its electoral manifesto for the European Parliament elections, proposes how PN MEPs would be economic ambassadors for Malta, attracting investment whilst ensuring peoples dignity at work.
