Prime Minister Muscat defends AFM for recruiting Scicluna whilst having a pending court case

Muscat was visibly uncomfortable and resorted to usual tactics by mentioning the past.

Joseph Muscat thought there was no wrong doing in the AFM recruiting a soldierwho had a pending court case. This was Muscat’s reaction after the AFM confirmed that Lorin Scicluna was recruited even though he was already accused in court, charges which he eventually was found guilty of and was given a conditional discharge.

Scicluna is one of two people charged with the murder of Lassana Cisse. The case is expected to proceed on Friday.

Prime Minister Muscat, in a state of panic and to excuse the AFM leadership at all costs, ended up giving a different version to that of the AFM, before he eventually realized what he said and quickly changed subject.

When pressured to answer the question, the Prime Minister was visibly uncomfortable and resorted to usual tactics by mentioning the past.

Muscat might have been referring to the dismissal of Godwin Schembri who was fired for a video of himself joking about a useless gate which the army spent thousands of Euros on.

Godwin Schembri, who Brigadier Jeffrey Curmi is now at war with, is the same person who was personally selected to be part of the Prime Minister’s family security team, prior to the 2017 general election.

Now the Army is accusing him of a series of warnings, even though he was previously entrusted with several duties, amongst which he also led the President’s Guard, as well as other high-profile cases such as the hijack back in 2016.
