Protesti kbar madwar il-pajjiż kontra l-liġi l-ġdida taċ-ċittadinanza

Tal-anqas 14-il persuna nqatlu u aktar minn 4,000 oħra ġew arrestati wara protesti kbar madwar l-Indja kontra l-liġi l-ġdida taċ-ċittadinanza.

Bosta kritiċi saħqu li l-liġi tikser il-kostituzzjoni sekulari Indjana u hija waħda minn sensiela ta’ miżuri tal-Gvern Ħindu Indjan tal-Prim Ministru Narendra Modi sabiex timmarġinalizza l-200 miljun Musulman fil-pajjiż. Minkejja dan, Modi  ddefenda din il-liġi bħala miżura umanitarja.

9 vittmi inqatlu f’Assam u f’Uttar Pradesh, fit-tramuntana tal-Indja, filwaqt li 2 mietu fl-istat ta’ Karnataka, fin-nofsinhar tal-pajjiż.

Minkejja li l-Pulizija pprojbixxiet li l-pubbliku jinġabar f’miġegħmat, mal-10,000 dimostrant niżlu fit-toroq tal-kapitali jipprotestaw. Il-Pulizija rrispondiet billi sparat l-ilma u l-gassijiet tad-dmugħ biex twaqqaf lid-dimostranti madwar il-pajjiż.
